The Boulevard on Merriam Lane claims to be the world's first 4K drive-in and holds around 600 cars. It's about 10 miles southwest of downtown KC, making it the most accessible option for the metro area. The grounds also host a weekend swap shop. It runs from spring through early fall, typically April through October.

The Midway in Paola is a quieter single-screen operation, a good pick if you want a more traditional small-town drive-in feel. It's about a 45-minute drive from downtown Kansas City via US-169 South.

On the Missouri side, the B&B Twin in Independence closed permanently in November 2024 after nearly 60 years. That leaves the Boulevard as the primary drive-in for most of the metro. If you're willing to drive further, the 66 Drive-In Theatre in Carthage (about three hours south on I-49) is one of the most photographed drive-ins in the country, sitting right on historic Route 66.

Kansas City's drive-in season runs roughly April through October. Spring and fall evenings can get chilly, so bring blankets. Summer nights are warm but mosquitoes can be a factor, so bug spray is worth packing. Both theaters broadcast sound on FM radio.
